yeah we get a fair few bands from tokyo and other parts of japan,i wasnt really aware of how few kansai bands regularly jaunt up to kanto but hey musnt complain! My fave places for gigs in tokyo are 20 000v and yaneura (not sure it exists now..)ever been to D.O.M??Here are my tips for exciting shows in kansai this month!!LETS GO!!......Sat sep 6th at BEARS:CATAPLEXY/TERROR SQUAD/SAAG/TECHNOCRACY//Sat sep 7th at FANDANGO:RAZORS EDGE/IDOL PUNCH/NOT REBOUND/TROPICAL GORILLA/// Sat sep 7th at BEARS:THE FUTURES/GO/CRUCIAL SECTION/DERIDE/// Sat sep 13th at sinkagura:EXCLAIM/CHARM/HISATAKA/CONGA FURY/GAMY..etc// Sun sep 14th at Maizuru bad brains: DELTA (ex-SDS)/FUCK GEEZ!!!!!/REAL REGGAE/NICE LIFE/WHATEVER// Sun sep 14th at BEARS:FRAMTID/AI/COA/NATION STATE// Weds sep 24th at BEARS:NIGHTMARE/DELTA PUREE(ex-LIPCREAM,GAIA,and MESS)/RISE FROM THE DEAD/ASPHALT/// Sat sep 27th at KYOTO WHOOPEES:GRIFFIN/NIHILIST/KiM// Sat sep 27th at BEARS:CORRUPTED/ZOE/REVOLT/DISTURD//////.....thats about it i think..no shows listed for Kobe sorry, hopefully next time.Damn this thread has gone astray hehe.Just one thing...i know its tempting but its not really a good idea for people outside Japan to post mesages asking folks to "send this record" or "rip this " for me....it invariably doesnt work out....people living here will know what i mean..I will add tho that MCR COMPANY(157 kamiagu maizuru kyoto) do wholesale rates for a number of labels.Do bear in mind tho' that yumikes is the busiest man in hardcore and may not always respond quickly to ppl's enquiries!

Now see, this is what I'm talking about. The difference between scenes in Osaka and Tokyo are like the difference between the east and west coast scenes of the U.S. Only a handful of the bands on that list(not including those actually from Tokyo) play or have played in Tokyo. Corrupted, The Futures, Charm and Framtid are the only ones that have played Tokyo recently. A damn shame because there's dozens of Osaka bands that I would like to see play live. I mean, shit! It's not like the two cities are that far apart!! What? A two hour train ride?
I'll shut up now.
By chance, Goul. Do Bathtub Shitter play many live shows around there? I've heard that they've gone for a completely western audience in the past years and play very few live shows in Japan. Some other bands seem to take this approach also, which makes very little sense to me. I'd LOVE to check out BS live. One of the best current grindcore bands, hands down.

i was thinking about this and ppl i know who play in bands often go to tokyo and/or tour like crazy...veteran bands like warhead and nightmare...One thing i should have mentioned is that not all the bands on the gig schedule are from osaka,Apart from the ones from tokyo there are bands from other parts of japan,,kitakyushu city for example(AI).I believe CHARM are from the yokohama area not Osaka.can anyone confirm this??Whatever it has to be said that both cities have outragously good live muzic scenes...On a slightly different note the japanese scene in the past has been terribly fragmented...all the different sub genres sectioned off from each other..so while in reality there were thousands of punks ,shows could be poorly attended cuz ppl only went to shows in their own little sub-genre.Osaka has got much much better in this respect as of late..and from what i hear tokyo and other parts of japan have too.As for bathtub shitter..hmm well they dont fit into the particular sub genre of japanese underground music that i personally enjoy so i've no idea....... ;D..seriously tho' i'm sure they play live fairly often<They, like unholy grave seemed to have mustered up a bit of a following overseas yeah...Other bands of a grindy nature worth checking would be RED (ex-world) GODGRIND(ex-world) FORTITUDE,SWARRRRM,ZOE(HEAAAVYYY!!!),...i could go on....!!

Totally in agreement. The sub-genres do tend to intermix here too but things still tend to stay in their place. For example, pure grindcore bands don't play that often with say, thrash or crust bands because the audience can differ in taste, but sludge bands will play with any genre. That's a very good thing, but here, I'm not sure about Osaka, bands tend to play shows with other bands with whom they're friends with. There's still some problems of hierarchy with long standing bands with heavy scene points having too much "control" over what bands play with who and in what clubs. This is just what I've heard from friends who are in bands and deal with this stuff straight on. Pretty fucking stupid if you ask me, and one of the reasons why I don't go to a lot of big name bands' shows when I can help it(I'm not naming names). Last time Charm was here I asked someone where they were based from and they said that they were orginally from the Kansai area but recently moved closer to Tokyo. I dunno. Same thing happened when I was talking to members of Unholy Grave. I could have sworn they were based out of Nagoya but their bassist said they live around Saitama. It's really hard to say where some bands come from. It seems they move around some. And speaking of Unholy Grave, thanks to their almost rediculous output of recorded material their becoming one of the better known bands out of Japan. I've got demos of Red, Godgrind and Fortitude. Great stuff. I'm a HUGE fan of World so I had to get that stuff. Their old split with Dudman changed my fucking life. Not that familiar with Swarrrrm or Zoe, but I am very intersted. Please go on.... ;D

My friend just moved to Osaka to teach for a year. He's awestruck by the shows there. I'm totally jealous.

Yeah, Randy's my buddy. Totally cool guy. He played in a couple of bands before moving to Japan. One was an awesome grindcore band called PROJECT GRIZZLY and the other was a fast straightedge band called ONxALERT. He mentioned the ZONE show in his last email and yes he did love it. I've tried to get him to drink a few times before-the boy just won't do it.
