Yeah, this is probably the totally wrong forum for this kind of question, but who is into J-rock? I hate all that visual kei shit ad whatnot, but how about Sads and stuff like that? I'm looking for more bands in that vein specifically. Any input?

One of my favourite bands is a japanese 'rock' band (hard to just label them rock as they are totally unique) called DOOM.There is a fansite with a lot of info in English(damn for some reason the link won't work..)
there are some really great tribal rock bands like BLUES BIMBOS/GUNFRONTIER etc.
I like MURDER STYLE,great rock/hc with a stooges influence.
then ya got stuff like THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT,SADS etc.
My favourite japanese rock lp ever is by QUARTERGATE,who were a side project featuring all of DOOM plus BAKI from GASTUNK on vocals.
Hmm...that wasn't very helpful was it.ha!

Not too well versed in the j-rock genre. Does Boris count as J-rock?? Maybe... If so, that's one of the only one's I know. I know about a bunch of psuedo punk j-mtv bands thanks to the missus(suck down, dragon ash, mad capsule market, etc...). I'm trying to get together an acoustic band that does black metal covers of j-pop songs, so I'm starting to get to know the pop scene. The vocalist for one of my bands reeeeeeaaally likes J-pop, which is fucking hilarious if you knew how goddamn metal he is.
I see J-Rock bands on the music channels here that are often pretty good. I'll have to pay closer attention to their names.

Yeah, I like the real shit, but the lame MTV-style stuff is ok too sometimes. Mostly, I'm just referring to ƒTƒbƒU(SADS) and •–² (Kuroyume) (later stuff only for the latter). Most of that other shit is terrible. I'll have to check out this band Doom, it's just unfortunate that they share a name with one of the pioneers of British crust! My friend from@“Œ‹ž send me a CD with quite a few bands on it that I've never heard and it's some of the most addictive music to listen to! Have you guys heard ƒnƒCƒƒEƒY (High-Lows) or ‚‚é‚è (Kururi)? Good shit, but probably makes me lose a couple of scene points in the process, ha ha!

The HIGH LOWS are pretty cool! They are actually ex-BLUE HEARTS,but the high lows have a much tougher sound.

Yeah, a penpal of mine sent me a CD with this ƒnƒCƒƒY song on it and I can't get enough of it! So they are actually ex-Blue Hearts then, eh? I have a friend that's into them. By the way, if any of you guys are into SADS/Kuroyume, check out www.kuroyume.hotarubi.net - they have 3 or 4 new good quality videos of SADS and Kuroyume every week or so. There's always some questionable early material from Kuroyume (visual kei goth crap), but the stuff they rip from the "Live Or Die" DVD is sick and the SADS stuff is always great.

I have to admit that I have a soft spot for J-pop too. That's what happens when you have three music video channels that play nothing but that type of music.
Halcali!!!!
There's one Asian Kung-ku Generation song that I like.

There's one Asian Kung-ku Generation song that I like. Yeah!! When my friend Duane was living with me he would constantly flip to one of the three music channels in hopes of coming across a J-HipHop video to make fun of. We started to enjoy quite a bit of the rock/pop videos that they were showing.

No, I didn't know that, thanx! I bought all their stuff I have from Pushead, just for the artwork, but they have some quite good stuff. The bassplayer is totally crazy. I think he's very popular, since he has his own toy-line ;D

Plus-Tech Squeeze Box are one of my favourite bands. Fuck knows what you'd class them as, though. I also have a strange affinity for Nitro Microphone Underground...
