Just curious , is there any female fronted/or all female bands playing the ''traditional'' japanese hardcore style , or as the American's say ''Burning Spirit's'' hardcore ?? It seem's to be a pretty male dominated scene .. , I really like the vocal's associated with the style but it would be interesting to hear female vocals ..

There's a few that come close to that style. Phonophobia(female vocalists), Defuse(all female, but possibly defunct), Mind Of Asian(all female, maybe more "thrash" than pure "hardcore") and some more that are escaping me at the moment. I'm sure Goul can answer this with better authority than myself.
Is "Burning Spirit's" actually a style of hardcore? Didn't we have this discussion in here before? Me thinks not.

You would have to go back to 1991 to discover the best of the female traditional bands,SELFISH RECORDS put out an outstanding compilation cd that featured WORMCAST/PISS/GUSH/and THE GAIA// THE GAIA also have a bunch of stuff out.some of which was released in the US by SOUND POLLUTION. That label also just released the DANMUSH cd which i believe is in the traditional style. Other bands would be ORTHOFIX/SINK(defunct)/GURENTO/YUMEFUDA/DOPAMINE(defunct)....hmm I really like this band: ECSTACY DRIVE,there's a coupla sound files on their website: www.geocities.co.jp/MusicStar-Piano/2888/index.htmlBURNING SPIRITS is not a style of hardcore although it is being used overseas to lump together a certain group of bands who play in the classic traditional style. According to some people TRAGEDY are burning spirits....pfftt..

Crap... don't know how I missed The Gaia, Dopamine, Yumefuda and Sink.
I always thought Burning Spirits was just a silly promotional name for the series of shows they show here in Japan with older, crust style hardcore bands on the list. I don't see how Tragedy fits under that name though. Leave it to us americans to put a stupid label on something(powerviolence, emo-violence, etc.)

Phonophobia(female vocalists), Defuse(all female, but possibly defunct), Hmm, I wouldn't call Phonophobia and Defuse 'traditional Japanese hardcore' (I guess that means Death Side/Lipcream style). They're more noise in the vien of the Confuse tradition, while some of the Phonophobia stuff is noisegrind. I don't know about Mind of Asian, never heard them. Still great fucking bands though!

I sometimes enjoy the occasional beer with some of the ladies from DEFUSE Sadly they broke up.. BURNING SPIRITS is kind of like the "collective" of the traditional bands (not CRUST related in any way!! ).Most of the shitwork/booking/tours etc seems to be done by KATSUTA-SAN (ex-TETSU AREI,now EXTINCT GOVERNMENT). He also helps run TOKYO HARDCORE TATTOO in Koenji...

I'm bad with genre terms. The more sub-genre something gets the more lost I am. It's either punk, hardcore, thrash, grindcore, noise, sludge or metal. Anything beyond that and I'm sinking.
