Fuck, did I see some great bands friday night. Straight up death, grind and black metal. I even almost got in a fight with the vocalist of the one of the bands at an izakaya after the show. I've got photos and a somewhat lengthy review of the whole thing(not the fight) that I hope to have up in the next week. Actually, I've got quite a bit of shit that will be on the update including an interview with Boris!! I'm heading to the states next week so it'll be the last one until September.
Anybody who visits this site into Japanese metal? I've actually been making an effort to check out more grind/metal shows recently around Tokyo. I love the hardcore but metal is my forte, fifty and shit.

Spill the beans on the fight, tough guy. As Gaijin Filth you and I both know that YOU WERE IN THE WRONG. Not that I'm collating evidence to have you deported or anything... <<<shuffling sound of papers being pushed under table>>>> ... you poked that pesky camera under someone's nose as they slurped their noodles AGAIN?
What will you do in The Free West? Remember; 1.Don't trust whitey 2.See a doctor, get it fixed.
Please provide a full, comprehensive list of recommended Japanese metal. I know nothing.

Judging by your "avatar" (internet word-look it up) you got some anger management issues there, sizzle chest.

The altercation was a result of misunderstood english drenched heavily in booze. The vocalist for one of the bands said, in English, "Norwegian bands suuuuucck." followed by some gibberish like, "all European bandssss blarg, blauh, bloo....." to which I looked at him and said, "okay, now you gotta follow that by saying that some Japanese bands suck too, cuz you can't say one countries bands sucks if you can't admit that some of your home bands blow ass also."
The only part that reached his brain was "Japanese bands suck." so he stood up and started yelling "Why d'you say that?!?!?!" over and over, slowly making his way onto the table in front of me. His friends didn't do much other than tell him to get the fuck off the table while several of them got behind me and told me, "He's drunk, please just ignore him. He doesn't mean it." I eventually talked him into sitting next to me and we worked it out. He apologized and then went on and on about how much Japanese bands aren't taken seriously outside of Japan.
The thing is that he used to do vocals for the Tokyo/Saitama death metal band Vomit Remnants. They've got several albums and they've played multiple tours in Europe and the U.S. so he speaks from experience. Metal, to many retarded assholes, is white mans music, and these same retarded assholes like to make sure non-white people know this. I guess VR, though they're extremely good at what they do, were sometimes ridiculed for not being caucasian. Just stupid, ignorant racism. At least in hardcore/punk/grindcore circles there's a lot of tolerance and understanding(grindcore is basically for politically concious metal heads). The extreme metal scenes get pretty catty and prejudiced about their music and the people involved with it. I guess if you're not familiar with the music of the scene it can be pretty hard to understand.
Well, the guy thought I was taking a shot at Japanese bands so he called me out. It was a simple misunderstanding. Just one of many small things that evening that made for a great time.

That avatar is part of a scene from the greatest fucking movie ever made. It really sucks, but like This Is Spinal Tap, I could watch it on a daily basis and not get tired of it. No shit, if you've never seen Mike Judge's "Office Space" you really should. It's got that girl from Friends.

Japanese thrashmetal really's great. But I prefer the old stuff though. Early Aion, Shellshock, Jurassic Jade, Cassandra, 666, Ex-Crow!... all excellent stuff and worth checking out. Who ever has Soulseek (filesharing program) can find most of this stuff since I ripped all of them (user: Cavia).

An update to the show I mentioned above. Several sources have told me that I "attacked and destroyed" a full size statue of Col. Sanders outside a KFC restaurant next to the club that night. This is false. Now, I know I was pretty drunk that night, but I know for fact that I did not attack the colonel. I owe my once robust physique to the Colonel's deep fried filled buckets of lab grown mutant fowl. The Colonel and I are friends. My theory is that a Steve like imposter commited said deed at a later date at an entirely different show than the one I was at. The chances of a Steve look alike roaming around the Japanese death metal circuit is high because all said witnesses to the event were Japanese and let's face it, all us white folk look alike to non-crackers. If anyone has any information please get in touch with me. I'm not trying to clear my name or anything since it's actually kind of neat that people are linking me with the Sanders attack. I'm just interested in meeting other people in Tokyo that are up to the same nogoodness that I'm usually up to. As a group, we could be a force to reckon with.
